Quick Update

Posted On:  July 24, 2009

Quick update: Last month I made a Burda skirt from the Feb 2009 issue that I love! So I pulled some fabric from my stash and made it up again. The fabric is suiting but looks exactly like dark denim. It’s hard to tell the difference until you touch it. Anyway, this skirt turned out even better in the fit because it has zero stretch to it where the first skirt I made was really stretchy. Here is a link to the first skirt review and a photo of my second skirt.

The Review can be found here

Knipmode or Burda? Who owns this design?

Posted On:  July 15, 2009

So last night I was reading some of my old Burda’s searching for my next project and I came across a photo in the September 2008 magazine of the exact skirt I just made from a March 2009 Knipmode Magazine.

Review Here

The burda pattern is actually for the jacket but it is shown paired with a skirt that is identical to the Knipmode skirt that I just sewed and reviewed. It has the front pleat, wide yoke and the interesting yoke seam that runs down the front-side of the skirt and attaches at about 2/3rds of the way down at the side seam. I am posting a photo below but it’s almost impossible to see that seam line unless you dig out the magazine and have a look.

I just found it interesting and it made me wonder “does Burda and Knipmode have a partnership or are they one and the same but go by two company names?" Either that or Knipmode has stolen their design since the Burda Magazine was published in 2008 and the Knipmode was published in 2009….guess we’ll never know!

Better than chocolate any day!

I am so excited!!!! This morning I treated myself a little. I went to Ebay and picked up 2 new Patrones Magazines (April & May Issues) and a Knipmode (August 09 - yes it's out already!). I can’t wait! Last time I ordered from Stoff Art in Germany, it took my issues about 2 months to get here to Canada but it was well worth the wait! Here are the cover photos. I’ll take scans of the line drawings and styles at a glance pages when they arrive! Oh happy happy day!

Line drawing Also, now that my Burda Jacket is finished, I am getting ready to trace a skirt from the March 2009 issue of Knipmode. I've been a bit intimidated to start sewing from this magazine since I have a hard enough time with Burda and the instructions are at least in English! My Dutch is non-existant and I had to babelfish a few words last night just to figure out what color lines I should be copying off of the pattern sheets. I thought if I at least started with something simple, it might build up my confidence with this magazine. I am always admiring Melissa's Knipmode creations from Fehr Trade. Here is a line drawing and some photos of the finished skirt.

New Project Update

Posted On:  July 1, 2009

So what’s on my sewing table now? Well this weekend I traced, cut and sewed up a muslin of this Burda jacket which I’ve had my eye on since the issue came out in February.

With very minor alterations (photo’s of alterations to be posted with review), the jacket fits really well. I picked up a piece of gorgeous “linen-look” stretch cotton in a very similar color to the pattern photo (unfortunately it's tough to see the color in the photo below - looks more grey than greenish).

I am now on the hunt for a camel colored fabric to make a pair of trousers to go with it (just like the pattern photo).

Check back later this week to see the review!
