A New Outfit In Under Five Minutes!!
Posted On: June 26, 2009
An interesting thing happened last night. I decided to go through my big laundry bin of unfinished sewing projects and see what is in there that shouldn’t be. I pulled out a number of things, one of them being a camisole type of top that I had made with a pattern that I’m certain was from a Burda magazine, so I scoured every magazine I have to see if I can find that pattern, but I can’t.
The funny thing is, there are 3 tops (with sleeves) in my closet that I know are made from the same pattern (you would think if I made this top 4 times, I would know what pattern I used and where to find it – maybe I have WAY too big of a pattern inventory perhaps??). Anyway, I’m not entirely sure why I decided that this top was unworthy of leaving the sewing room and going into my closet, but regardless, I pulled it out of the pile, pressed it, tacked down some facings that were still unfinished, tried it on and LOVE IT!!!! It’s the perfect length to wear with my jeans and a fitted blazer over top.
So today for work (casual Friday), that’s is exactly what I wore! My jeans, my new (old) camisole and a short sleeved, fitted blazer. It looks great. Here is a photo of the top (sans blazer). It’s made of this really fluid draping delicious fabric. I think it might become one of my favorites and if that’s the case, I better figure out what bloody pattern I used so I can whip up another 2 or 3 in other fabrics/colors.
I wish I could reach my hand into a laundry basket of unfinished goods every day, and in 5 mins come up with a whole new outfit!!! That would be lovely!!
Cheers, Deb

OMG is it June already??

I can't believe I have this beautiful website (thank you honey) and yet I never update it! I am not sure why except that I have a tough time convincing myself to sit down in front of the computer to do so when A) it's sunny out B) there is more important things to do like sewing of course or C) it's sunny out!
Of course that's no excuse cause A) the sun only started shining here in Calgary just a week ago and B) I haven't been in my sewing room for quite a while! So I'm not really sure what my issue is, but I promise to make a better effort at updating at least once a month.
So what am I working on right now? Well besides the typical yard work and being a chauffer (I mean parent), I did finally go into my sewing room last night to cut out and sew a muslin of skirt 101B from the April 2009 issue of BWOF. I cut a 40 in the waist and tapered to a 36 in the hip and below. The muslin fit perfect (dontcha just love it when that happens?) so I immediately went ahead and cut the pattern out of lovely bright blue stretch sateen that I bought about a month ago. I made an oath to myself to start sewing with more color (most of my closet is black/white & grey). Anyhow the fabric is really nice and fresh and I am very excited to see how my skirt turns out! I expect if everything goes well, I should be finished it tonight after which I PROMISE to take pictures and post a review of!
