Happy New Year!!

Posted On:  January 1, 2009

HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone! The New Year is always so exciting – new beginnings, new opportunities, NEW SEWING STUDIO (see pictures in my DEC blog post))!!! I’m still so excited about my new sewing studio which I officially moved into 2 weeks ago. I’ve taken the past couple weeks to get it organized, find a home for all my stuff and purge some stuff as well. Now I’m ready to get on with the New Year, new styles, patterns & fabrics! Last year I resolved to sew more. Well I definitely succeeded in meeting my resolution. The only problem is I got lazy and didn’t review anything I created! So this year I resolve to continue to sew more AND now that I have a user friendly website, I also resolve to upload my photos and put my reviews on here and on Patternreview.com.

So, that said….let’s talk about what’s on the must sew list for the month of January!! I am really tired of not sewing with some kind of purpose in mind. I blindly sew projects without considering the entire outfit at the end of the day so I’m going to try and keep the final vision in mind when I start a new project. Of course, there will always be the one off items that I just can’t help sewing (even if I don’t have the top or shoes to with…yet).

Vogue Jacket The first thing I want to make (and have been trying to get to for a year now) is a fitted casual jacket that I can wear with jeans and heels. I want something that will cinch at the waist and give the elusion that I DIDN’T gain weight over the holidays! Here is the pattern I’ve picked.

Since we have quite a few more months of winter in front of us, I also want to try making a new winter coat for work. I have one that I love but I really want another in a different color so that I have some options! I have this simplicity pattern (below) in my stash right now just waiting to be cut! I think I'm going to do the one with the gathered collar and front pockets. I haven't decided what color to do yet but I think it will be in a boiled wool, so I'll have to see what my fabric store has left for boiled wool colors.

Body Suit Blouse And after those two projects, if there is still time in January with my busy work, mom, wife schedule, I am going to attempt to re-create this blouse. I think a fitted button up shirt merged with a bathing suit or panty pattern will do the job! I really think this type of blouse will work nicely with a pencil skirt or pair of dress pants. No more re-tucking whenever I have to reach up for a file at the office!!
