I am a happily married full time working mom of 2 beautiful daughters and 1 naughty dog! I live in Calgary, Alberta Canada where, the mountains are a stones throw away and regardless of the season, the sun shines most of the time (and I love that).
I've been sewing since as far back as I can remember. I started like most, sewing Barbie clothes out of material scraps from my mothers sewing room trash bin. Although I learned a lot from my mom, most of what I know now is self-taught through literature and trial & error over the last 15 years. I currently have 7 machines: A manual Brother that I have packed away in hopes that one of my daughters will continue on with this dying art, a manual Kenmore, a manual Singer, a digital Kenmore Elite, a Singer serger, a Janome serger and a Janome Coverstitch. You could say I have a small addiction!
It took me a long time to get here on my own, but now that I have mastered all of my fit issues and have a good, solid understanding of many of the techniques that eluded me for so long, I have this burning desire to share my knowledge with others so they can progress in their sewing much faster than I did on my own. This year I started offering lessons in my home studio and dream of one day opening up a sewing studio to be able to offer group lesson and workshops.
As far as The Deb Thompson Collection...it is not my own designs but a collection of the things that I have made and am proud of. One day I hope to have enough knowledge to start designing my own clothing but for now, knocking off such greats as Donna Karen, Michael Kors & Channel will do.
I hope you check back often and see how things are progressing.
